Rethinking algorithms and metrics in the newsroom. Case studies and controversies.
Algorithms and metrics are transforming journalism and how newsrooms work, because using these tools editors decide what information do they keep and how do they decide what their audiences want and should hear, with evident problems in terms of completeness, neutrality and reliability of the news. This is true, for example, during elections, breaking news and emergencies. In the panel we will be happy to discuss with the audience what it means to have data in journalism (from automation to metrics), analyze some case studies and draw the legal and social implications of these tools.
