The war in Ukraine and the rapid withdrawal from Afghanistan have placed the issue of security and foreign policy at the center of the European agenda. A conflict fought a few kilometers from the European border underlines the importance of the EU common defense dossier, one of the priorities of President Ursula von der Leyen and the European Commission. Just as the humanitarian emergency in Afghanistan, where attention has fallen away too quickly after the withdrawal of American troops, should not be forgotten.
