For years audiences have complained that problem-oriented news turns them off. Younger audiences say the same thing, but also that solutions-oriented news would draw them in. At the same time, many journalists want their stories to “make a difference” in a different way than the journalism they grew up with. So, could solutions journalism be a solution?
This panel will touch on the latest research about how different generations consume, value and respond to differently framed news, how some news outlets are adjusting their coverage to engage audiences, and how journalism educators are training the next generation of journalists to meet a changing audience landscape.
