May 3 is the United Nations World Press Freedom Day. It is, in the words of the UN, the opportunity to:
> celebrate the fundamental principles of press freedom
> assess the state of press freedom throughout the world
> defend the media from attacks on their independence
> pay tribute to journalists who have lost their lives in the line of duty
The panel will hear testimony from Mexico to Turkey and beyond. Without forgetting Western Europe, where Lirio Abbate lives under permanent armed police protection due to his writings on the mafia.
