Money is the unmoved motor of the phenomenon in a business where committees in the hands of the mafia play their part. Also in the North, citizens inspired by the example of Campania have demanded studies and answers on a worrying fact: the increase in the incidence of cancer, especially among children. Meanwhile, much of the national press sweeps the issue under the carpet, defining the phenomenon as merely a Southern problem.
