Viviana Mazza

Viviana Mazza is an Italian journalist born in Catania in 1978. She has been working for the Corriere della Sera Foreign Desk since 2006, specializing in coverage of the United States and the Middle East. She has lived in the United States and Egypt and has reported from numerous countries, including Syria, Iraq, Iran, Egypt, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Nigeria, and the United States. In 2010, she won the Marco Luchetta Journalism Award, dedicated to children who are victims of war.

In November 2015, along with Paolo Valentino, she became the first European journalist to interview Iranian President Hassan Rouhani after his election. Since November 1, 2022, she has been the Corriere della Sera’s U.S. correspondent, becoming the second woman to hold this position for the newspaper.

For Mondadori, she has published three books mainly aimed at young readers: Storia di Malala, Il bambino Nelson Mandela, and, together with Nigerian writer Adaobi Tricia Nwaubani, Ragazze Rubate, about the girls kidnapped by Boko Haram.

Beyond her journalistic work, Mazza contributed to the English translation of Federico Fellini: His Life and Work by Tullio Kezich and participated in the collective book Che cos’è l’ISIS, written by journalists from Corriere della Sera.

Currently, she curates the newsletter "America-Cina" and contributes to the blog La27Ora for Corriere della Sera.
