Taha Siddiqui is an award-winning Pakistani journalist living in exile in Paris. He is the founder of safenewsrooms.org, a digital media platform documenting censorship in Asia with a focus on South Asia, which in 2018 was shortlisted for the Prize for Independence by Reporters Without Borders (RSF) Press Freedom Awards.
While in Pakistan, Siddiqui reported for multiple international news organizations like the New York Times, the Guardian, Al Jazeera and France24. His focus areas include terrorism, civil-military affairs and human rights. In 2014, he won the prestigious Prix Albert Londres, also known as the French Pulitzer, for a documentary on the spread of polio in Pakistan and Afghanistan.
He went into exile to France with his family in February 2018 after surviving a kidnapping and possible assassination attempt in January 2018, carried out by armed men who he believes belonged to the Pakistan Army that had been threatening him for years.
In exile, he continues to work on Pakistan and is currently writing a book about his homeland to be published in 2019.
