Steve Doig holds the Knight Chair in Journalism at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism of Arizona State University. Before joining ASU in 1996, he was research editor of The Miami Herald where he worked for 19 years. An expert in computer-assisted reporting, Doig was part of an investigative team at The Miami Herald that won the 1993 Pulitzer Prize for Public Service for an analysis on how weakened building codes and poor construction contributed to the devastation of Hurricane Andrew. He has trained hundreds of reporters to use data analysis and social science techniques to do better reporting, and has conducted workshops on computer-assisted investigative journalism in Latin America, Indonesia, China, Australia and much of Europe.
