Ruth Sherlock is foreign correspondent of the UK daily The Daily Telegraph and has covered the Arab Spring from Egypt, Libya and Syria. She was awarded Young Journalist of the Year at the 2012 British Press Awards. The judges praised her "astonishing collection of work" during the Arab Spring, saying she had demonstrated "skill as well as courage" to produce a series of "harrowing" accounts. After living in Libya with rebel fighters, covering the whole war from the nascent revolution in Benghazi to the final capture of Col. Muammer Gaddafi, Ruth moved to report on Syria. She has made several trips into the country, both undercover in government-held areas and being smuggled into the country with rebel fighters.
