Roman Shleinov

Roman Shleinov is one of Russia’s leading investigative reporters. He is editorial board member and observer at Vedomosti, Russia’s most influential, independent business daily (the Russian project of The Wall Street Journal and The Financial Times). He joined the newspaper in October 2010. He previously headed the investigation desk at the popular opposition newspaper Novaya Gazeta from 1999 to 2010. Since 2008, Shleinov has worked with the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists at the Center for Public Integrity on the ongoing transnational project Tobacco Underground: The Booming Global Trade in Smuggled Cigarettes. He has also participated in the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP), an organisation set up by five news organizations and investigative reporting centers in Eastern Europe and Eurasia. For OCCRP, he coordinated the work of seven journalists in as many countries on a project called Document Dilemma which showed how people can illegally obtain identity papers.
