Philip Faigle is a Special Projects Editor at ZEIT ONLINE, Germany’s leading news website. Since 2019, he has been the head of the newsroom’s section for special projects and longreads named X. In 2021, he initiated The 49, a project that was built around a group of 49 people that statistically resemble Germany. 30,000 readers had signed up for the project, and a software calculated the ideal set of participants, who then engaged in group discussions for roughly six months. Philip is one of the founders of the debating project Deutschland spricht and the international platform My Country Talks. Together with Jana Simon, he hosts the podcast Why do you think that?, in which people with opposing politic viewpoints and from diverse social backgrounds discuss political issues.
