Peter Cunliffe-Jones is a Visiting Researcher at the University of Westminster, London, where he researches the consequences of false information. After a 25-year career at the AFP news agency in Europe, Africa and Asia, he founded Africa’s first non-partisan fact-checking organisation, Africa Check, in 2012 and in 2017 created the Africa Facts Network. As a member of the advisory board of the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN), from 2015-2024, he co-wrote in 2016 the IFCN Code of Principles adopted today by more than 170 organisations and led the revision of the code in 2019-2020. He has also advised the Arab Fact-Checking Network (AFCN), platforms and regulators on information standards. His latest book, Fake News - What's the harm? Four Ideas for Fact-Checkers, Policymakers and Platforms on Countering the Consequences of False Information and Defending Free Speech, will be published by University of Westminster Press in June 2025.
