Paola Deffendi Regeni is the mother of Giulio Regeni, the Italian PhD student at the University of Cambridge who was kidnapped, tortured and murdered in Egypt between January and February 2016. Since then, she and her family have been fighting to get the truth about the death of Giulio. She is the co-author with Claudio Regeni and Alessandra Ballerini of Giulio fa cose (2020).
