Matina Stevis

The Wall Street Journal

Matina Stevis is the Wall Street Journal’s Africa business correspondent based in Nairobi, Kenya, writing about money, economics and investment across the continent. She was previously based in Brussels covering the euro-zone crisis for the WSJ. Throughout her career she has also been writing about refugees and migration in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. In 2015 she became one of the handful of foreign journalist to report from Eritrea as part of an exclusive investigation into Eritrean refugees; in previous years she wrote mostly about refugees in Europe.

Before joining the WSJ Matina wrote for the Economist, where she won the 2010 Marjorie Deane financial journalism award, and contributed to the Guardian. She graduated in Modern History and Politics from Queen’s College, Oxford and has an MPA in Public Policy from the London School of Economics. She was born and raised in Athens, Greece.
