Maria Makeeva is a Russian radio and TV journalist, the first deputy editor-in-chief of Russia’s only independent TV channel TV RAIN. She is one of the channel’s news service anchors. She is also host of her own program Makeeva presenting interviews on timely subjects. Before joining TV RAIN in 2010 Maria worked for the Russian News Service (1995-2007) at the Russkoye Radio radiostation. From 2005 to 2007 she was prime time news panorama anchor at the popular Silver Rain radio.
The last year was for Maria and her colleagues at TV RAIN particularly difficult. The Russian authorities tried various means to silence the defiant channel which is producing unbiased, objective and free-of-censorship coverage of the Ukrainian crisis and Russian domestic politics. For several months Maria ran her news program from the temporary studio arranged at a private apartment.
