Jovanka Matic
Institute of Social Sciences Belgrade
Jovanka Matic is Research Associate at the Institute of Social Sciences in Belgrade, Serbia, with more than 25 year-experience of research in the field of communication, media and journalism studies in Western Balkans. Her research interests are the role of mass media in transition processes and conflicts, political communication, media regulation and audience studies. Her recent work concerns the structural causes of the lack of media integrity in the Western Balkans and the role of media in supporting political populism. She holds a PhD degree from the Faculty of Political Science in Belgrade and a MA degree from Simon Fraser University, Canada. Jovanka worked as a journalist in a weekly magazine and in a feature agency before starting her academic work. She has been involved in a number of international projects and is active in cooperation with various Western Balkans civil society organizations dealing with media and journalists.
