Jaafar Abdul Karim is the host of the Deutsche Welle Interactive Talkshow Shabab Talk (a political talk show format for young people) and the Social Media Reporter in the News Journal. He is also one of the Project Managers of the #DW3.0 Team for creating young, interactive and multimedia formats for Deutsche Welle.
He the typical trimedial reporter that tweets, posts, films and interviews at the same time. During the “Arab spring” he was present on-site: in Egypt, Tunisia and Libya.
Born in Liberia and raised in Switzerland and Lebanon, Jaafar studied Media Computer Science at the TU (Technische Universität) Dresden and at the INSA (Institut National des Sciences Appliquées) Lyon; additionally he completed a directing workshop at the London Film Academy. Currently he is doing a M.A. in Communication and Leadership at the Quadriga University. Medium Magazin named him “Newcomer of the Year” at the end of January. And he also placed in the top ten at the annual “Journalist of the Year” awards, coming in sixth place. His documentary After the storm was nominated for the best documentary at the Aljazeera International Documentary Film Festival 2013 and UNSPOKEN Human Rights Film Festival, New York.
