Ibrahim Helal is Editorial Advisor to the Aljazeera Network.

He has more than 25 years of experience in international media organisations including the Egyptian TV, BBC Arabic radio and TV, BBC World Service Trust, Abu Dhabi TV and Aljazeera Network.

He started his career in Egyptian TV as a librarian then worked as a journalist until he left Egypt for the BBC, where he worked in 3 separate spells; as BBC TV Producer 1994-1996, as Editor in BBC Radio 1999-2000 and as the Middle East Project Director in the BBC World Service Trust 2004-2006.

In Aljazeera Network he served as Director of News of the Arabic Channel twice (2001-2004 and 2011-2015). He ran the editorial line of Aljazeera Channel during its 9/11 coverage, as well as the Afghanistan and Iraq wars. He managed the Arabic Newsroom again during the very sensitive period that came after the Arab Spring, between November 2011 and June 2015. Additionally, Ibrahim played a leading role in the launch of all Aljazeera channels; as Programme Editor of the Arabic Channel in 1996, as Deputy Managing Director of the English Channel 2006-2010 and as launch manager of the Balkans Channel in 2011.

Ibrahim holds a university degree in Political Sciences from Cairo University in 1992. He was chosen in 2004 and 2005 by the World Economic Forum in Davos as one of the Young Global Leaders. He is a member of the International Press Institute in Vienna, the National Union of Journalists in the UK, the Front Line Club in London and the Arab Thought Forum in Jordan.
