Antonio Tajani

Antonio Tajani is vice president of the European Parliament, elected in July 2014, with responsibility for interfaith dialogue, conciliation and security. Previously, he was vice president of the European Commission in charge of industry and entrepeneurship from 2010 to 2014.
Together with Silvio Berlusconi, he was one of the signatories of the founding act of Forza Italia, the dominant political party in Italy from 1995 to 2010. He became spokesman for the President of the Italian Council of Ministers during the first Berlusconi government, then was elected as a member of the European Parliament in 1994, 1999 and 2004 with over 120,000 preference votes.
Prior to entering politics he was a journalist, with spells as editor of the Italian weekly Il Settimanale, presenter of the RAI 1 radio news programme and head of the Rome editorial office of the Italian daily Il Giornale.
