Aliya Salahuddin

Aliya Salahuddin is a freelance writer and documentary filmmaker who divides her time between Italy and Pakistan. She was formerly an executive producer with Pakistan’s Geo Television, where she wrote and produced documentary series on issues of diaspora, identity, democracy, and religion. She also led a nationwide advocacy campaign for the channel against Pakistan’s discriminatory laws and later produced films that explore human rights issues such as the blasphemy law (Christians in Pakistan broadcast on Dossier, RAI 2). Aliya also led a two-year project with a non-profit organisation in Washington D.C. aimed at facilitating communication between the U.S. and Pakistan through media.
Aliya began her career more than a decade ago as a presenter on a weekly talk show on Geo TV. She is now writing her first novel based on the murder of a journalist in Karachi. She holds an MA in Screen Documentary from Goldsmiths College in London and an MA in International Relations from the University of New South Wales, Sydney.
