Today, freelance journalists face multiple, hybrid threats. Not just on the frontlines of conflict but closer to home and from behind their laptops. Intimidation, disinformation, legal challenges, surveillance and physical attacks are becoming increasingly commonplace. And it is overwhelmingly local freelance journalists, reporting on corruption or criminal activities in their own countries, who are most vulnerable of all.
