State schooling, governed by articles 33 and 34 of the Italian Constitution, was conceived as one of the pillars of democracy under the banner of equality and the right to study. But after 70 years, what is the state of Italian public education, from schools to universities? Has anything remained of the spirit of equality of opportunity and the notion that a nation's future is forged at its school desks?
