Egypt, where President Al-Sisi has recently been re-elected with 97 percent of the votes, is a country where human rights violations - even forced disappearances, torture, executions - are multiplying. The horrific 2017 torture and murder of the Italian Cambridge University PhD student Giulio Regeni allowed those who have been fighting for the human rights in the country to bring international attention to the deteriorating situation. Press freedom too is increasingly at risk. The session will consider these issues.
