International news reporting is becoming more dangerous than ever before. According to the International Federation of Journalists, more than 120 journalists were deliberately targeted and killed in the line of duty last year.

While a degree of risk is an inevitable part of any assignment in a hostile environment, there is much that newsgatherers can do both prior to deployment and once in the field to improve their personal safety and to become more resilient in the face of psychological stresses that can cloud one’s judgement.

This workshop will offer a practical introduction to some tips and techniques journalists can use to keep themselves safe and ensure they make the best possible decisions when working in harm’s way.
