The conflict in Yemen, which escalated in March 2015, is among the least reported of all the wars in the Middle East, despite the fact that it has killed more than 7,000 people and wounded 43,000, including more than 3,200 children. We will discuss three areas of particular concern. First, the country’s health crisis, which has been exacerbated by attacks on medical facilities; MSF has been working at the forefront of this crisis since the conflict began. Second, the economic difficulties and international isolation which have affected the country for many months, and have contributed to increasing poverty and malnutrition rates. Third, the failure of those governments which support the Saudi-led coalition (the US, the UK and France) to adopt protective measures, and the responsibilities of countries, including Italy, involved in the weapons trade which fuels this conflict.
